Master Editions represent the absolute peak of the Longquan workshop’s output. Every blade here is built by a named master smith using premium imported steels, traditional self-smelted billets, or hand-folded Damascus that takes weeks of preparation before the forging even begins. These are not production swords with extra polish – they are individually commissioned pieces that the workshop signs and certifies. Most are limited to a handful of units per year.

What Justifies the $2500+ Price Tag

Materials beyond the standard

Master Edition blades start with materials you do not find at any other tier:

  • Japanese DC53 tool steel: Imported directly from Japan, DC53 holds an edge longer than any other commonly available sword steel and resists chipping under hard impact. The Night Slash uses this exclusively.
  • Heritage Damascus: Billets prepared with hand-selected scrap iron and historical Chinese iron sources, folded by hand for 30+ folds. The pattern depth and color variation cannot be replicated with modern industrial steel.
  • Named-smith certification: Each blade is signed by the master smith who forged it, with a paper certificate of authenticity tracking the steel source, forging dates, and tempering process.

What you are actually paying for

The price is not a markup – it is labor cost plus material rarity:

  • 120-200+ hours of skilled labor per blade (vs. 30-50 for entry-level)
  • Premium imported steel at 5-10x the cost of domestic carbon steel
  • Master-grade fittings: Hand-cast bronze tsuba, real ray-skin samegawa, traditional silk ito, hand-lacquered saya with custom mon designs
  • Single-piece commission scheduling: The master smith works on one Master Edition at a time, start to finish
  • Lifetime warranty – we will service and re-polish these blades indefinitely
